Post Graduate Department of Economics

PG Department of Economics is one of the prestigious departments of Sree Vidyadhi Raja N.S.S College, Vazhoor. Economics was offered as a special subject at the pre-University level in the year 1965.BA Economics was started in the academic year 1980-81 with 50 students and 3 teachers. Another landmark in the history of the department is the introduction of the postgraduate course in the year 1999-2000. At present 6 permanent teachers and 2 guest lecturers are working in the department. Two faculties are Ph.D. holders and other two faculties are pursuing Ph.D. UG and PG results are greater than the University average in every year. More than 80% of the students admitted to this department come from socially and economically backward sections of the society. The Department runs a yearly extension programme “SIST ” (Survey of Integrated Social Transformation) which focuses on extensive surveys on problems related to socially and economically backward sections of the society, and suggesting solutions to formulate policies at the Panchayath level. The department conducts a value education programme ‘BCC’ (Blending Character with Competence) to inculcate human values among students for a better living. UGC-NET Coaching is being offered to PG students. Through the extension program- ‘Snehapoorvam’, the department hands over clothes and food to various rehabilitation centers. Meritorious students are given cash awards on merit day every year. The department organises Invited talks, seminars and quiz competitions; and celebrates important days by ensuring active participation of students. We wish to convert the department to a research department in the near future.
