The Department of Mathematics was started in 1965. The department started to function with the two-year pre-degree course. BSc Mathematics was started in the year 1980 with Statistics and Physics as the subsidiary subjects. Another landmark in the history of the department is the commencement of the postgraduate course in the year 1984.
At present 6 permanent full-time teachers for Mathematics and one permanent full-time teacher for Statistics are working in the department. There are over 80 students studying at the UG level and 30 at the PG level. Most of the students admitted to this department come from socially, educationally and economically backward sections of the society. The department is committed to enlighten the students with current trends in Mathematics and to make them competent professionals. We try to create awareness about socio- economic problems. The department conducts various programs to nurture student’s creativity and soft skills.
Our biggest pride has always been our students who have always done us proud by maintaining a consistent record of academic performances at the university level. The department has always ensured that the students entrusted to our care are inculcated with high moral values and ethics. The main emphasis of the Department is on creation and application of knowledge and remains committed to the overall development of students by integrating teaching, co-curricular activities. The department also has a wide spectrum of eminent alumni.
